LACK of international test matches and lack of quality leagues have been cited as challenges to Zanzibar teams being eliminated early in the international tournament.

This was stated by the coaches of KMKM, Ame Season and Training team, Said Kwimbi when they were giving their assessments on the participation of their teams in international competitions and early release.

Kwimbi, whose Training team was participating in the African Confederation Cup, said that in addition to playing many friendly matches, they needed international test matches to gain more experience.

He said the players of his team which was released by GD Inter Clube of Angola were inexperienced due to the lack of international friendly matches.

“Let me just be clear because the lack of international test matches has contributed a lot to our teams failing to cross even one step of the championship we participated in,” he said.

He said they played many friendly matches with local teams that did not help them gain international experience.

However, he said if their teams are well organized they can go far as the tournament is not very difficult.

However he said they have learned that when you are at home you have to use all your tactics and that the competition for him he has seen is similar to an unarmed war.

And the coach of KMKM who participated in the African Champions League, Season said the biggest thing that brought them down was the Zanzibar league lacking quality.

He said the league is not very competitive so much so that they went to participate in the tournament being far behind.

“Our league is not good and lacks competition and this is the main reason for us to do badly, but I congratulate the teams of Mainland Tanzania for continuing to advance in the competition,” he said.

In the international tournament, all the Zanzibar teams were eliminated after the Training was closed 4-0 overall, where at home they lost 1-0 and away 3-0, while KMKM lost a total of 2-0.
